Joaquin Alberto Vargas y Chávez (9 February 1896 – 30 December 1982) was a noted Peruvian painter of pin-up girls. He is often considered one of the most famous of the pin-up artists. Numerous Vargas original paintings have sold and continue to sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Created in 1966 this Framed Print is a restored reprint from the playboy works, when Vargas was commissioned by Hugh Heftner in 1959.
Hefner’s mission was to show that sex and lust are good and normal. It was a clear stance in the well-debated issue of ‘obscenity’ and the first amendment in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
